Is it me?

There is never a bad time to post a picture of Ashley Judd. I wanted to find a screen capture from the opening scenes of Double Jeopardy, but I had a feeling the good people here at Tumblr would not approve that.
Since the turn of the calendar year, the University of Kentucky basketball team has been playing decently. Tonight, they clinched at least a .500 record with its eighth Southeastern Conference win over Georgia. Two months ago, I would have said they’d be lucky to win half that many.
Their first two losses in the conference could have easily been wins. UK was perhaps at its unhealthiest when they played shorthanded and lost to Mississippi State on the road, and they sent Florida to overtime.
It was that third loss, last Tuesday, that people will be talking about for a long time. And Ashley Judd was there.
And unfortunately, so was I.
Mrs. Franchitti had not attended, to my knowledge, any of the previous UK games this year. And I don’t think she’d been to any of UK’s games in the past couple of years. I figured her reasons for attending were like mine: UK was appearing to turn a corner, and the game was close in proximity to where she lives.
I did not know that Ashley was there until I left the game, with about 10 minutes to go (when I called my dad). I was too busy laughing sarcastically and trying to take pictures of the scoreboard when it read Vanderbilt 55, Kentucky 14 to care about any stargazing.
When you follow a team, you don’t want to do anything to mess up its mojo. So the question I’ve been pondering the last week is, did Ashley Judd mess things up by showing up, like how Jessica Simpson “ruined” Tony Romo when she showed up for the Eagles-Cowboys game? Or was it me?
Either way, it was a loss. And they have seemed to do just fine without either me or Ashley in attendance.
